Wind River Is Fantastic!

Hey everyone!

I went to the movies tonight and saw Wind River by Taylor Sheridan. An FBI agent (Elisabeth Olsen) teams with a town’s veteran game tracker (Tom Hardy) to investigate a murder that occurred on a Native American reservation.

I think it’s one of the best movies I’ve seen this year! I didn’t know what to expect but it…blew my mind. I heard some people saying that the film is very male focused and although it might be so, the female characters are far from the stereotypical damsels in distress.

Elisabeth Olsen did an amazing job. I particularly liked the pitch of her voice which had a deeper range, her physicality – i.e. her choice of a neutral standing pose was with the legs hip width apart (signifying strength by taking up her space) and that she (the only woman) was the leader in her crew. She is a great actress.

Some of the actors could play my family!
I also really liked to see that some of the cast looked similar to my type. Although I’m not a native American, it was really fun to suddenly see actors that could play my family! This doesn’t happen often to me. I was jokingly asking my husband if this is how he feels all the time when he watches movies with white people “hey, she could be my sister/mother/brother! etc” hahaha.

Hello Martin Seinsmeier, brother from another mother 😀

Joke aside, it is a wonderful movie. It feels authentic. It has a strong sense of place. The characters felt like real people. The story is gripping and I’d definitely watch it again.

Until next time,

  1. I have mixed-feelings about this movie because it takes place on an Indian Reservation, yet it features 2 white characters. On the other hand, the film gives Native American actors work and the opportunity to be seen. Bottom line for me: A good film is a good film. I look forward to seeing this film. Thanks for the review, Ina.

    1. Hey Diana, I totally understand. This is why I was so happy to see more Native Americans at work, it’s pretty rare. Let me know when you watch the movie! Cheers, Ina
